Citing the many ongoing and upcoming construction projects at the Disneyland Resort in the coming years, runDisney announced that all future races at the resort following next month’s Super Heroes Half Marathon have been canceled.
So for the foreseeable future there will no opportunities to earn a Coast to Coast medal, awarded to those who complete a race at Walt Disney World and Disneyland in the same calendar year. In addition, this will likely put even more strain on Disney World’s already incredibly popular slate of races as they will be the only Disney races available outside of the Disneyland Paris Half Marathon.
Refunds are being issued for anyone who already registered for a Disneyland race that is how canceled. Construction projects are about to ramp up considerably at the resort in the new year with the eastern gateway and a new on-site hotel, and possibly Marvel stuff (we really hope so), but are there other reasons for pulling the races for now? Check out Robert Niles’ thoughts on that HERE.
Whatever the reason, hopefully we’ll be able to report in the not-too-distant future that Disneyland races are back on the schedule. Running through the resort and the surrounding area is a thrill we got to experience a few years back and the feeling of running up Main Street and through Sleeping Beauty Castle is euphoric and hard to put into words. Running through Angels Stadium is also a moment I’ll never forget. More people should get the chance to make these memories that last a lifetime.
