Summer is slowly winding down and the Halloween season is just around the corner, especially at theme parks where it’s generally two-month celebration.
Universal Orlando is prepping for the 27th year of Halloween Horror Nights, the resort’s annual nighttime scare fest featuring a host of haunted houses, stage shows, and “scare zones” (i.e. scary performers in the streets). Universal has announced the first four houses this year featuring a classic film and some a trio of newer favorites.
Stanley Kubrick’s infamous film based on Stephen King’s book The Shining is getting its first house this year, so get ready for possible elevators of blood, creepy twins, REDRUM, and of course an ax-wielding Jack.
Next up, the Saw franchise, which I just happened to have binge watched, will return to Orlando for the first time since its debut in 2009. We will certainly see some new scenes this year with Saw: The Games of Jigsaw. Coincidentally, but not really, the first new Saw film in seven years, Jigsaw, will be in theaters on October 27. Will you escape before time runs out?
The Bruce Campbell-led Ash vs Evil Dead will get its own house promising plenty of gore; his character Ash Williams does have a chainsaw for a hand sometimes.
And last but not least, Ryan Murphy’s FX horror series American Horror Story will return for it second consecutive house, this time themed to season two, Asylum; season three, Coven; and the most recent season, Roanoke. Asylum is my favorite of those three seasons, but I’m sure each of the three sections will elicit plenty of screams.
That’s it for now. We’ll keep you updated on more Orlando Halloween Horror Nights announcements as they become available. The event runs from September 15 through November 4. Tickets are on sale now starting at $59.
Will you be heading to Orlando for HHN this year? I’ve never personally experienced it, but as I get older I like scary stuff more, so I think this year might have to be my first time. 🎃 🔪 👻 ⚙️ ☠️ 🎃
