If the recent announcements of California Adventure getting more Halloween this year with the addition of a Halloween overlay in Cars Land and Halloween decor on Buena Vista Street just weren’t quite enough to entice you, Disneyland confirmed that the only three-month-old Guardians of the Galaxy — MISSION: Breakout! is joining in on the fun.
Starting on September 15 and running through October 31, the attraction will become Guardians of the Galaxy: Monsters After Dark, but literally only after dark. It will still run with its normal story during the day, but at night there will be a brand new story that sounds like it picks up where the original left off.
The Guardians have escaped the Collector, but they left Groot behind and have to return to rescue him. Rocket needs us to distract the creatures in Taneleer Tivan’s exhibit so he can find Groot.
But wait, there’s more! Monsters After Dark will feature a new original song written by Guardians of the Galaxy composer Tyler Bates, who also co-wrote the David Hasselhoff-fronted track “Guardians Inferno” from Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. The new song is aptly titled “Monsters After Dark” and will soundtrack this new adventure.
This is making me want to plan another trip out west to Disneyland. We just rode MISSION: Breakout! for the first time in July, and now it’s already getting an update. Could the attraction possibly get a Christmas overlay in the future too? That could also be awesome, but we’ll take it one holiday overlay at a time.
